Bempedoic acid is used to lower the risk of heart attack and heart procedures in adults with known heart disease or high risk for heart disease who are unable to take other cholesterol-lowering medications.
Bempedoic acid is also used in adults with high cholesterol including inherited conditions that cause high levels of bad cholesterol.
Bempedoic acid may be used with a diet either alone or in combination with other cholesterol-lowering medications.

What is the most important information I should know about Nexletol (Bempedoic Acid)?
You should not use bempedoic acid if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Bempedoic acid may cause swelling or tearing of a tendon (the fiber that connects bones to muscles in the body), especially in the arm, shoulder, or Achilles tendon of the heel. Tendon problems may be more likely in older adults or people who take steroid medicine or certain antibiotics. Ask your doctor about this risk.
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:
- gout;
- problems with your tendons; or
- liver or kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis).
May harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant.
If you are pregnant, you may be asked to share information to track the effects of bempedoic acid on you and the baby.
Do not breastfeed while using this medicine.
Side Effects
What are the side effects of Nexletol (Bempedoic Acid)?
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop taking bempedoic acid and seek medical attention right away if you have signs of tendon rupture: sudden pain, snapping or popping sound, bruising, loss of movement, or swelling near your joints (especially in your arm or ankle). These symptoms can occur weeks or months after you have started taking this medicine.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- high levels of uric acid in the blood--joint pain or swelling, tenderness, warmth or redness over your joints, severe foot or toe pain.
Common side effects may include:
- pain in your back, shoulder, legs, or arms;
- muscle spasm;
- stomach pain;
- anemia (low red blood cells);
- abnormal liver function tests;
- kidney problems;
- gallstones;
- wheezing, trouble breathing, severe or worsening cough; or
- cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat.

How to take Nexletol (Bempedoic Acid)?
Use Nexletol (Bempedoic Acid) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Bempedoic acid is usually taken once daily, with or without food.
Your blood may need to be tested often.
Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve, or if they get worse.
Store in the original package at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Take the medicine as soon as you can, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.
