Colchicine is used to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, certain types of heart procedures, and death from a serious heart problem.
Colchicine is used in adults with plaque buildup inside the arteries (atherosclerotic disease) or those with many risk factors for heart disease.

What is the most important information I should know about Colchicine (Lodoco) (Oral)?
You should not use colchicine if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
- low blood cell counts, or other blood disorders; or
- severe liver or kidney disease.
Some drugs should not be used with colchicine. Your treatment plan may change if you also use certain other medicines for infections, seizures, birth control, high cholesterol, organ transplant rejection, prevention of nausea and vomiting, HIV, high blood pressure or heart problems.
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had:
- liver or kidney disease.
It may be harder for you to get a woman pregnant while you are using this medicine.
It is not known if colchicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
Ask a doctor if it is safe to breastfeed while using this medicine.
Side Effects
What are the side effects of Colchicine (Lodoco) (Oral)?
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using colchicine and call your doctor right away if you have unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or numbness and tingling in fingers or toes.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
- low blood cell counts--fever, chills, tiredness, mouth sores, skin sores, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, pale skin, cold hands and feet, feeling light-headed or short of breath; or
- severe vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach cramps.
Common side effects may include:
- vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach cramps; or
- muscle pain.

Grapefruit may interact with colchicine and cause side effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit products.

How to take Colchicine (Lodoco) (Oral)?
Use Colchicine (Lodoco) (Oral) exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Colchicine is usually taken once per day. Follow your doctor's instructions.
You may need frequent blood tests, and your next dose may be delayed based on the results.
Do not stop using colchicine suddenly. Ask your doctor before stopping the medicine.
Store this medicine in the original container at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
Use the medicine as soon as you remember, and then go back to your regular schedule. Do not use two doses at one time.
